Quartz Studio Free is a free audio recorder for Microsoft Windows. You can record audio from different sources into different tracks and then export the resulting mix in WAV format.
You can combine several inputs from audio files or recording devices, and generates a unique file with all the data, facilitating the process.
Quartz Studio only uses 44.100 kHz sample rate, in order to ensure optimal quality (CD quality).
To achieve a "good take", sometimes you will need to defragment your hard disk and/or disable background applications.
Quartz Studio Free is easy to use, featuring a clear user interface with hardware-like graphical controls, however such could confuse users that aren't familiarized with them.
Beyond the idea of recording your own audio compositions, the program provides built-in tools and features to easily share your work with other colleagues over Internet, revealing an all-new collaborative work model.
Pros
- One of the very few freeware products
Cons
- It just exports to WAV
- To achieve a "good take", sometimes you will need to defragment your hard disk and/or disable background applications
There's a con you can add to the list: it won't download to your computer, but it will download a lot of other worthless stuff you don't even want.
